Last Friday, the MADC hosted its bi-annual Caregiver Wellness Day at the beautiful and relaxing Matthaei Botanical Gardens. The event, organized and led by MADC wellness coordinator, Laura Rice-Oeschger, LMSW, was open to family members caring for someone with memory loss. The day included chair massages, guided meditation, reading and writing poetry, reflecting in small groups, and engaging and supporting those in similar caregiving situations. With lunches provided by Story Point Senior Living, everyone was able to share a meal together. Guest facilitators CarolynRose Stone, Beth Spencer and Tillie Spencer helped participants to talk openly about their experiences, reflect on old memories and think about how they manage stress in their lives. Ultimately the day was truly restorative and encouraging to all those who attended.
