Meet Colleen Greene, Wellness Coordinator & Exercise Instructor for the U-M MHealthy program. Colleen is one of our Center’s generous donors for the past nine years.
Following the death of her mother from Alzheimer’s disease, Colleen wanted to do something to contribute to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Uneasy about the prospect of raising enough money to make a difference (Note: All money makes a difference!), Colleen began by giving her time to the Alzheimer’s Association as a volunteer. Supported by her friends and family, Colleen then began holding fundraisers to raise any funds she could to contribute to researching this devastating disease. Now, Colleen is in her ninth year of hosting Bowling for Bernie – an annual fundraiser in her mother’s name that contributes to the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
Colleen hasn’t stopped there – she also hosts regular “Dine to Donate” events at local Buffalo Wild Wings and Texas Roadhouse restaurants, as well as Drag Queen Bingo events at Connor O’Neils restaurant, and T-shirt sales for the annual Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Stay up-to-date on Colleen’s fundraising efforts here. Two “Dine to Donate” fundraisers are coming up in September. Find details here.
Lastly, Colleen has incorporated fundraising for our cause into her professional work through the MHealthy Active U program. Active U is the university’s physical activity challenge aimed at getting the entire university motivated and moving more. Participants in the program are also encouraged to give back by donating to our Center.
We cannot thank Colleen enough for her generous efforts! Her work goes to show that any dedication to our cause can make a difference!
