Dr. Annalise Rahman-Filipiak recently received funding from the National Institute of Health for her SHARED Project. The SHARED Project will support Dr. Rahman-Filipiak’s efforts to deliver personalized feedback protocols of Alzheimer’s disease risk disclosure information to diverse patients and their families. Earlier feedback about risk may allow for medical, legal, and social planning that could significantly improve health outcomes and decrease burden for all older adults. The project hopes to understand how patient-specific factors such as perceptions and knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease, access to care and trust in medical professionals, and family culture dictate desire for, and ability to adapt to, risk disclosure. These protocols will represent the first step towards translating advances from clinical research techniques into personalized health information that can optimally benefit all older adults.
